The skinny on 120Hz
As just noted, the UN55C6500 sports a Full HD resolution and an LED backlight system. But in many ways, the real crown jewel is this LCD's 120Hz Clear Motion technology. Movies and television are filmed at different speeds: movies at 24 frames-per-second, and TV at 30fps. Most televisions, however, are built to reproduce video content a 60fps. Because 60 is twice 30, TVs can easily reproduce 30fps television programming by simply flashing each frame on-screen twice instead of once. Unfortunately, the 24fps at which movies are recorded don't divide evenly into the 60fps at which most TVs play back video. In order to show movies, standard TVs must perform special processing that can result in unnatural shakiness when the 24fps content is played back at 60fps. Accordingly, Samsung has equipped the UN55C6500 with 120Hz playback technology. Clear Motion 120Hz is able to reproduce content at 120fps, a multiple of 24, 30, and 60. As a result, movies and television can be played back smoothly and naturally without unwanted artifacts.
