Automatic system calibration
The RXV3900 comes with its own audio calibration technology. Yamaha's YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters, such as speaker size, the distance of the speakers, the sound pressure level, etc. until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room. A new Quick Start function displays the YPAO Auto Setup menu when the microphone jack is inserted, so Start can be immediately selected. Six YPAO settings can be memorized. And all you have to do is sit back and wait for it to finish.

Making the most of HD formats
The RXV3900 receiver lets you enjoy the best possible and newest surround sound from Blu-ray Disc players. it supports two lossy formats: Dolby Digital Plus and DTS HD High Resolution, as well as the lossless formats: Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. Dolby TrueHD is Dolby's next-generation lossless technology developed for high-definition disc-based media. Dolby TrueHD delivers tantalizing sound that is bit-for-bit identical to the studio master, unlocking the true high-definition entertainment experience on next-generation discs. When coupled with high-definition video, Dolby TrueHD offers an unprecedented home theater experience that lets you enjoy sound as stunning as the high-definition picture. DTS HD-Master Audio delivers sound quality that matches the clear and vivid images of high-definition video. Blu-ray discs deliver five times the video resolution of standard DVD and produce images with stunning realism. But that's only half of the story. You need incredible sound to complete the high definition experience and DTS-HD Audio provides the highest quality mutli-channel sound possible. Movies come alive with sound as lifelike as the picture, and music becomes as real as a live performance. Dolby Digital Plus is the next-generation audio technology for all high-definition programming and media. It combines the efficiency to meet future broadcast demands with the power and flexibility to realize the full audio potential of the upcoming high-definition experience. Built on Dolby Digital, the multichannel audio standard for DVD and HD broadcasts worldwide, Dolby Digital Plus was designed for the delivery formats of the future, but remains fully compatible with all current A/V receivers. With Dolby Digital Plus, you get high-quality audio, more channels, and greater flexibility. Yamaha RX-V3900

CINEMA DSP Digital
Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha CINEMA DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent sound fields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate sound fields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and startlingly realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater. The decoding circuitry performs Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES (DTS-ES matrix 6.1 and DTS-ES Discrete 6.1), DTS Neo:6 and DTS 96/24 decoding with extreme accuracy, as well as all digital sound field processing.

For multi-room custom installations, power amp channels can be assigned in two ways: five for the Main Zone and two for Zone 2 (for 5.1-channel sound in the main room), and three for the Main one and two each for Zones 2 and 3 (for music in all three rooms without the need for extra amplifiers).
